It's summer and I get very hot sleeping on a memory foam mattress, so have decided to look for for the best cooling mattress protector for it before I lose my sleep altogether. Mind you, they are good things, very soft, warm and comfortable in winter. However, in hot weather, they are unbearable because of the body heat they retain.
Doing my research I ignored the very cheap ones. I firmly believe that we get what we pay for so was looking for a good quality item with great reviews and over 4.5-star rating keeping my mind open on the price. My health and comfort are just too important to me so I was determined to find something that would serve me well for a long time. However, I'd already decided not to go over the 100-dollar limit.
I was looking for a quilted pillow top hollow fiber hypoallergenic item, preferably a thick one. I also looked through the questions and answers on Amazon to see what people were saying about its temperature regulating function since it's even more important to me than comfort, and I certainly don't want it to make me even hotter as some of these things make you feel. Having spent about 3 hours looking at various options I shortlisted the following five.
USA Made Bamboo Based Cooling Mattress Protector by ExceptionalSheets
This item is more expensive than the others on the list, but it's pure luxury and has loads of amazing reviews. It's filled with a super soft fiber which has a goose and duck down fill which is both comfortable and breathable. It's certified as fire safe without the use of fire retardant chemicals. From the reviews, it works very well for people who get hot at night where other things fail, which is just what I want. The cover is made of poly soft stain and moisture resistant material and it includes a fitted skirt too. The number of buyers for this product counts well over 2000, with a review rate 4.3 which is good considering its popularity. There are great reviews of customer service.
Hypoallergenic Quilted Cooling Mattress Protector by Leisure Town
Apart from the fact that it shows deep plump springy pockets on the picture, it has 294 reviews with an average score of 4.5. It is made of 300TC 100% cotton which should add to its temperature regulating function. It has stretching sides and is hypoallergenic - great for allergy sufferers. The "state of the art" fill feels like goose down one. It is 11.8 x 7.9 x 3.9 inches in size and 7.89 pounds in weight. People with complex health conditions such as fibromyalgia, insomnia and sciatica are saying that they can sleep at last. Others are saying that it feels like sleeping on a giant cushion and that the surface feels cool. What not to like?
Breathable and Cooling Spa Fill Soft Mattress Cover by Harny
This item looks cool, soft and springy, with a 400 TC tear-durable cotton top and a 3D microfiber fill which compared to the normal snow fill is more supportive and is easier to restore the item to its original thickness. It is hypoallergenic and is pre-shrunk, with an adjustable elastic stripe to hold it in place and 18-inches deep pockets. It's my second favourite simply because it doesn't have as many reviews as the first one and one with one of the buyers says that he still feels hot sleeping on it. However, since it's just one such review and there may be other issues such as a warm blanket, I am including it into my list.
Water Resistant Swiss Cooling Technology Mattress Protector by Witone
This water-resistant all-weather breathable item responds to your body temperature by absorbing the moisture faster when it's up and more slowly when it's down. It has a 100% 400TC cotton cover and 3D microfiber filling which feels very comfortable and soft to touch. The dimensions are 78x80 inches with 16-inch deep pocket, and the weight is 7.52 pounds. According to a reply to one of the buyers, the filling is 450 grams per square centimetre, so the topper is thin, which is why it's in the 4th place.
Oaskys Quilted Cotton Breathable Mattress Topper
This is a cheaper alternative to the more expensive ones above. It has 300TC cotton top and polyester fill. The reason I've listed it last is that it doesn't have a very detailed description of its features and some of it is confusing. However, the reviews are very good and people are happy both with the softness and the cooling factor. It also looks thick and sturdy on the photos.
